Good Ol' Freda
Freda Kelly was just a shy Liverpudlian teenager when she was asked to work for a local band hoping to make it big. Though she had no concept of how far they would go, Freda had faith in The Beatles from the beginning and The Beatles had faith in her. Many people came in and out of the band’s circle as they grew to international stardom, but Freda remained a staple because of her unfaltering loyalty and dedication. As The Beatles’ devoted secretary and friend, Freda was there as history unfolded; she was witness to the evolution – advances and setbacks, breakthroughs and challenges – of the greatest band in history. For the first time in 50 years, Freda shares her story. Documentary: PG:

Russ Hewitt feat. Marty Friedman: VIVIR LIBRE
Spanish Guitarist Russ Hewitt has done it again with another collaborative effort with another high-profile guitar virtuoso... Russ has been putting out a string of singles with such recording artists as; Jazz Blues Legend Larry Carlton (Steely Dan, The Crusaders), Rock Funk Groovester Nuno Bettencourt from the band Extreme and now Legendary Shrapnel Records' / Megadeth Guitarist Marty Friedman. If you are in the mood for a heavy Latin groove, look no further... IN RUSS'S OWN WORDS: SONG I set off initially to write a heavy groove Latin song that would translate well live. I used the Tres guitar I got from Cuba to harmonize with the guitar throughout the song, including the main riff and chorus. Due to the key this song is written in (C#m), I was able to come up with a unique chord progression for the solo section utilizing the open E string. After the chord progression was written, I instantly thought that it would be something Marty Friedman would write and that he would be perfect for the song. I am fortunate enough to be endorsed by the same guitar cable company as Marty (Analysis Plus Cables) and reached out to the owner Mark Markel to make an introduction. Within 7 days of the introduction, Marty had sent up his parts. Marty's playing made me really step up my game, including adding harmonies to my solo for the first time. MARTY FRIEDMAN Marty Friedman is one of the rare guitarists that have their own distinct sound and style. All it takes is a couple of notes played before I can recognize that it's him or someone trying to sound like him. A bonafide guitar hero, Marty is considered one of the best Rock/Heavy Metal guitarists in the world, and his solo for Tornado of Souls is cited as an all-time great. Marty's use of Middle Eastern and other exotic scales influenced me to explore those as well, which can be heard in many of my songs. Known mainly for his electric guitar playing, Marty plays an acoustic guitar full of his trademark phrasing and harmonies. VIDEO I initially was not going to have a video for this song, just a static photo of the single cover. At the last minute, I reached out to a childhood friend, Todd Sims. Todd is a film and TV director with over 300 project credits to his name. As the owner of Fusionflix Entertainment, he was kind enough to work on this for me after six days of filming on location. All five of my Telly awards are from soundtrack work I've done for some of Todd's projects (Parent Compass TV series/webisodes, the DVD companion to the New York Best Seller The Harbinger Decoded by Jonathan Cahn, and the feature film Thirst: Mission Liberia.)

Tube Amps Have a BIG Problem. This Device SOLVES It.
"Your favorite amplifier usually sounds best when it is opened up, but these days that means it's usually too loud for using at home and even on stage. Amp attenuators are great but they rarely sound as good as they claim. A friend of mine has made what I think is the best amp attenuator of all time. The Fryette PS-100 Power Station miraculously re-creates the sound of your amp at its loud sweet spot... at any volume, including whisper quiet. I never take fees, I'm getting no compensation for this video, I just think it's a great leap forward, and everybody should know about it." Tim P.

Blues Soloing Move - House Pattern (Major) To Box 3 Pentatonic Minor To Pentatonic 6 Pattern
This video is one of my favorite "moves" around and through some of my favorite blues soloing scales and sounds. If you've ever heard me talk about what I call the, "core position," for many blues players... this is it. "Notice how, with minimal movement, I can go through 3 unique sounds easily and comfortably, with only minor adjustments getting from one scale to the next... In my opinion, that should be your goal, not moving around the fretboard in large leaps and bounds."....Griff

Beginning Blues Guitar Lesson - The 4 Blues Chord Shapes You Should Know
"The blues typically revolves around 7th chords... not major 7th, and no minor 7th, but dominant 7th chords. Those chords can come in a few different shapes and sizes, but there are some basics that you really should know, and that's today's video."...Griff.

Blues Guitar Soloing Lesson - Sliding Through The Pentatonic Scale On The Ring Finger
"It's fairly common using the "boxes" of the pentatonic or blues scale to get stuck in one pattern (which is often box 1 or maybe 2)... But if you can get used to starting with your ring finger, there's a cool little slip and slide move that will take you through over 2 octaves of pentatonic scale real estate pretty darn quickly! Aside from being a good way to play some cool blues/rock sounds because of the increase in speed, this is just another great way to visualize your fretboard that you may not be that familiar with. So have fun, and try it out..." Griff.

Griff Hamlin | Using The "Blues Half Step" In Your Soloing - The Altered Dominant Scale (Modern Blues Soloing)
In talking about more Modern Blues Soloing, and getting away from the standard Pentatonic and Blues scales for a bit, one of the things we have to discuss is the way chords influence the sound we play...And notice that I say "sound" and not "scale..." because, to me, scale implies a single correct choice, whereas saying that we are playing a certain "sound" implies that it's a choice we are making. Which is, of course, what Modern Blues Soloing is all about - having the know-how and the freedom to make a variety of sound choices in a variety of settings. Well, in a slow blues (or any blues, really) there's a tendency to use the "blues half step" going into the IV chord (or the V, or the IV) and if you use that "half step away" chord as part of your soloing, you get a pretty cool sound.

Griff Hamlin, "There are a lot of different tunes that, while "bluesy," aren't really blues songs (they aren't a 12 bar blues.) This particular progression, which is used in songs like, "Blue On Black," "Sweet Home Alabama," and a lot of other classic rock and "blues" tunes, lends itself really well to experimenting with both the major and minor blues and pentatonic scales. So, in this video, I'll show you the progression, how I put it in the looper, and how I go back and forth between those major and minor pentatonic scales to hear how they work and how they create contrast when used together."

Epiphone Joe Bonamassa 1962 ES-335
NASHVILLE, TN: By leveraging its iconic past and leaning into the future, Epiphone has set the stage for the next era of sound for present and future generations. Epiphone is proud to take the next step in its partnership with world-famous guitarist and guitar collector Joe Bonamassa and launch the Joe Bonamassa 1962 ES-335 in Sixties Cherry. The Epiphone Joe Bonamassa 1962 ES-335 is now available worldwide at authorized Epiphone dealers and on www.Epiphone.com. “I used my Gibson 335 on my first solo album because I wanted to sound like Eric Clapton,” says Joe Bonamassa. “A 335 makes you sound different because it’s semi-hollow, but it also has a very unique, fat and warm sound that no other guitar has. I sold the guitar about three years later to finance a move from NYC to Los Angeles. For almost 17 years I searched for that guitar, but then I finally got it back and now I want to share it with you.” “Joe has many guitars, but none have more personal significance than this ES-335,” says Mat Koehler, Sr. Director of Product Development at Gibson Brands. “We absolutely love the story and we’re honored to be able to help tell it with the release of this faithful recreation.” Some guitars are more special than others, even when that guitar is owned by a world-famous guitarist and guitar collector like Joe Bonamassa. In 1996, he purchased a red 1962 Gibson ES-335 and used the guitar on his first solo album, A New Day Yesterday. In 2001, he regrettably sold the guitar to help fund his move from New York to L.A. As the unexpected phone call resulted in Joe being reunited with his old friend, the red ES-335 that propelled him through his first solo album and launched him into a new life on the West Coast. Feeling fortunate to get his old guitar back, Joe promised that this important instrument would stay with him for the rest of his life. The Epiphone Joe Bonamassa 1962 ES-335 is a tribute to a legendary guitarist and one of his cherished instruments. It features a one-piece mahogany neck with an Indian laurel fretboard and a comfortable Rounded C profile, Gibson BurstBucker 2 and 3 pickups wired to CTS potentiometers and Mallory capacitors, A Switchcraft pickup selector toggle switch and output jack and a Maestro Vibrola. The Epiphone Joe Bonamassa 1962 ES-335 arrives with a custom hardshell case with Epiphone and Joe Bonamassa graphics and a certificate of authenticity.

Orange Amps Launch Their Retro 1970s Effect Pedals
Orange Amplification announces the return of three iconic effects pedals; the Orange Phaser, Orange Sustain and Orange Distortion — with the trio’s vintage characteristics reworked for the present day. The modern story of these classic units starts in 2019, when an Orange message board went viral for a photo of the long-discontinued Sustain pedal from the early 1970s, with its outsized form-factor and art nouveau typography. Not long after, the company found the original schematics and the project was started. The rest of the story writes itself: as more evidence was unearthed about the Sustain and its two brothers, the Distortion and Phaser, Orange set about remaking these beasts, retaining their most-loved qualities and incorporating the contemporary features; LEDs, DC inputs etc — expected on 21st-century effects pedals. The result is three seasoned British made pedals re-tuned and ready for the modern age. First up is the Orange Sustain, which smooths and regulates guitar sounds, acting like an overdrive for clean tones with added chime and warmth. Boosting volume without scuffing purity and making soft parts louder and the loud parts softer, it offers an expressive, nuanced and three-dimensional take on the sustain/compressor effect. Then there’s the Orange Phaser, the most elegantly simple of the reboots, with just one knob and one job: to bring sweet psychedelic swirl to any rig, its dial modulating guitar tones from woozy sweeps to fast, choppy stabs via kaleidoscopic insistent, whirling pulses. With four-stage circuitry rebirthed from the original schematics combined with modern techniques inside the box reduces the noise floor. The Orange Phaser adds maximum spin with minimum fuss. And finally there’s the Orange Distortion, with vintage appearance up top but all-new circuitry below deck, replacing the original’s back-to-back diode design with an amp circuit and tone stack with a user-adjustable treble. New design doesn’t mean new sound though — the Orange Distortion retains all the bite, growl, warmth and howl of its 1970s forefather, from fat gravelly textures to red-hot screamers and maximum saturation. The trio of effects pedals are a perfect homage to one of rock’s golden ages, but also ripe for any modern set-up. The strong aluminium chassis and classic look offer a 50-year-back teleportation. Then, stomping on the footswitches completes the time-travel: these might be new for 2022, but with the Orange vintage pedals, The Song Remains The Same.
