News: Oct 22, 2020: Black American Music Association (BAM) And Georgia Entertainment Caucus (GEC) Announce the Formation of The Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame

Today the Black American Music Association (BAM) and the Georgia Entertainment Caucus (GEC) announced the formation of the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame (WOF). The momentous event featured remarks from BAM Founders, Michael T Mauldin and Demmette Guidry, and GEC Founders Georgia State Representative Erica Thomas and Catherine Brewton. Also in attendance, was renowned artist, D.L. Warfield, who is creating the official WOF emblem that will be embedded in the sidewalk representing each inductee. The emblem is being created in collaboration with sculptor and historian Ed Dwight. Located in the historic downtown Atlanta area, the WOF will reside on the sidewalks of Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive and Northside Drive, 1 AMB Drive, NW, Atlanta, GA 30313. The event was hosted by the Mercedes Benz Stadium. Miriam Paris, Rep. Park Cannon, Whip William Boddie, Director, Mayor's Office of Film & Entertainment at City of Atlanta, Phillana Williams and Atlanta City Council member, Antonio Brown, who presented the BAM and GEC team with a proclamation from the City Council. Known as the "Capital of the South," Atlanta has long been the mecca of Black music and entertainment and the WOF will be a key addition to showcase the industry's greatest contributors. With both a national and international appeal, the WOF will honor the iconic individuals and organizations that have impacted Black culture and community alongside those who continue to lead us into the future. Groundbreaking for the WOF is slated for late December, weather permitting, with an official inaugural celebration scheduled for January 2021 over M.L.K., Jr. weekend. "As a proud Black man in America, who has been a part of the professional entertainment community for 45 years, I'm elated to have the opportunity to help usher into Atlanta, Georgia, this historic and innovative international Walk of Fame," shared Mauldin. "Represented as the "Eternal Crown Jewel of Black Culture," there could be no better location in the world than M.L.K., Jr. Drive to profile the heritage, legacy and future of our global Black music and entertainment culture." "Black American Music, as an art form, is the driver of Black culture, which drives popular culture worldwide. So, it is fitting that we honor those who are the 'bedrock' of culture," stated Guidry. The Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame will be a permanent monument to achievement in Black excellence. We are designing the Walk of Fame in hopes that it will become a popular tourist destination, illuminating our rich cultural heritage." "I am ecstatic to be a founding member of the Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame. This initiative makes me so proud, with everything going on in the world African Americans need some positivity and hope and the Walk of Fame will bring just that," shared Georgia State Representative, District 39, Erica Thomas. "This symbolic gesture proves that we as a community have come a long way and although we have many miles to go this effort shows an overall sense of respect for the individuals of color that helped pave the way for our entertainment professionals." "I'm extremely proud to be a part of this initiative to create the Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame," commented Catherine Brewton. "Not only does Georgia have deep roots in black music and entertainment, but Atlanta continues to be the center of black excellence. AGN NEWS: OCT 20th;The Black American Music Association (BAM), has announced a partnership with the Voting Rights Are Civil Rights Initiative. The effort is specifically focused on protecting the vote in 14 swing states and 54 counties with high African American and Latino populations. BAM and the Voting Rights Are Civil Rights Initiative have aligned with several entertainment industry groups, community organizations, activists and former election commissioners. Together the coalition is focusing on three main initiatives – recruiting GenZ to help staff the polls; educating people on their legal rights so they can make sure their votes are counted and how to address voter suppression and intimidation. To accomplish this, they are recruiting and training poll workers; providing unique information from professional election administrators and providing information and tools to fight voter suppression tactics and intimidation. The first initiative, which is already underway, includes partnerships with the Georgia Youth Poll Workers Project and Poll Heros. Both of these organizations were started and are run by college students interested in recruiting fellow members of GenZ to be paid poll workers. BAM was created to Preserve, Protect, and Promote the Legacy and Future of authentic Black American Music as a global art form. In its mission to support and advocate for its membership and the music community as a whole, BAM understands the impact that government policies and elected officials have on these groups. BAM also understands the power of voting and embraces the importance of every American citizen being able to exercise their Constitutional right to vote, which is why they've partnered with Voting Rights Are Civil Rights Initiative. BAM co-founder Demmette Guidry says, "In the past four months we've seen the power of the youth when they stand up and make themselves heard. This is the next step in harnessing the power of the streets in conjunction with the industry and artist community to not only make change on the national level, but also on the state and local levels. Something we are committed to pursuing over the next several years. Through working in coalition with our artists, industry executives and election officials we can transform our cultural relevance into community relevance empowering future generations." Ion Sancho of Voting Rights Are Civil Rights, who oversaw the 2000 Bush vs. Gore Recount for the Florida Supreme Court states, "The 2020 election provides America with her greatest opportunity to remedy the poisonous legacy of slavery and it's spawn, institutional racism, since the end of the Civil War. Today we are all video witnesses to the injustices we have kept hidden from ourselves, lest we question the myth of American Exceptionalism we use to cloak our history. Slavery flawed our Founders, but their wisdom gave us a government that we can change, at the ballot box, to make, in their words, "a more perfect union". Today, our efforts, allied with the greatest artists and talent we possess, act in concert to ensure all Americans can vote, fulfilling the real greatness of America - one nation, with liberty and justice for all. In addition to BAM and Voting Rights Are Civil Rights Initiative, the coalition includes BMAC, The Kevin Lyman Group and The Publicists Forum. A leading voice in the music industry, BAM is focused on several other key Social Justice and Community focused initiatives in addition to its anti-voter suppression work. HOLLYWOOD, Calif. —Fender have just released their highly anticipated recreation of George Harrison’s iconic “Rocky” Stratocaster initially previewed at Winter NAMM 2020. With only 100 being made available worldwide, its debut sparked major conversation that only further emphasizes its ultimate, limited-edition status. The “Rocky” Stratocaster is considered to be one of music’s most celebrated guitars, known for several iconic appearances including the live performance of “All You Need Is Love” on Our World, the very first global satellite TV program. Harrison’s spontaneous psychedelic paint job continues to serve as a special homage to the late ‘60s and to Harrison’s artistry. Fender Custom Shop Master Builder Paul Waller worked hand in hand with the Harrison estate to personally examine the original version himself in order to create this identical replica. Even the “Grimwoods” decal remains in place on the back of the headstock.
