AGN News: Todd Rundgren unveils plans for bi-weekly live interactive virtual TV series “The Todd's Honest Truth”
Todd Rundgren, dubbed “Rock's Renaissance Man” way back in 1972 by Rolling Stone, will be premiering his bi-weekly live interactive virtual television series “The Todd's Honest Truth” on his 72nd birthday, June 22, 2020 at 6pm PDT/9PM EDT. A new episode will then go live every other Friday beginning July 3 in the same time slot. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Rundgren began playing guitar as a teenager, going on to found and front Nazz, the quintessential '60s psychedelic group. In 1969, he left the band to pursue a solo career, recording his debut offering, Runt. But it was 1972's seminal Something/Anything?, on which he played all the instruments, sang all the vocal parts, and acted as his own producer, that catapulted Todd into the superstar limelight, prompting the press to unanimously dub him “Rock's New Wunderkind.” It was followed by such landmark LPs as The Hermit of Mink Hollow and A Wizard, A True Star; evergreen hit singles include “I Saw The Light,” “Hello It's Me,” “Can We Still Be Friends,” and “Bang The Drum.” Todd Rundgren and some well known guest artists are re-recording his 1973 anthem “Just One Victory” and giving it away for free to the Democratic National Committee for use by candidates throughout the US running for public office this fall. Participants include Joe Walsh and Paul Shaffer, along with Don Was, who is co-producing with Todd. The virtual box office to purchase tickets for “The Todd's Honest Truth” episodes is open as of today: https://onlocationlive.com/category/honesttruth . click the info button for the 'live' link.

AGN News: June 21st is "Make Music Day"
AGN News: June 21st is "Make Music Day"....For most of us, June 21st this year is Father’s Day, but it’s also the date for this year's lesser known, Make Music Day. Make Music Day was first launched in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique, when the country’s Ministry of Culture conceived an idea for a day where free, live music would be everywhere throughout the country and now nearly 40 years later, it's not only a national holiday in France, but it's celebrated in more than 120 countries around the world. Make Music Day is presented in the U.S. by the NAMM Foundation and is quote, “open to anyone who wants to take part. Every kind of musician – young and old, amateur and professional, of every musical persuasion – pours onto streets, parks, plazas, and porches to share their music with friends, neighbors, and strangers. All of it is free and open to the public.” June 21, the summer solstice, was chosen as the date for the event, and last year, more than 1,000 cities around the world threw citywide music celebrations to make the occasion. To find out about Make Music events in your city and how to get involved, click the INFO button and check out makemusicday.org.

Alamo Music Center | Taylor Builder's Edition 652ce Demo & Review | Our Favorite Taylor 12-String
Chris McKee is back to showcase one of our favorite new guitars from Taylor, the 652ce. This Builder's Edition 12-Fret 12-String packs some incredible aesthetic appointments, from its Wild Honey Burst, soft satin finish, spruce/flamed maple combination, armrest bevel, chamfered binding, and compound carve cutaway-- all of the luxury we've come to expect from Andy Powers' Builders Edition guitars. It also brings some very welcome improvements to the common pitfalls of the 12-String; the V-Class bracing helps with the intonation and sustain, the shorter scale length and lower bridge placement helps with warmer tonality, and the bass-first string order helps you pack a punch with your down strums. Add a set of beautiful Gotoh 510 Tuners, and you've got a whole list of reasons why the 562ce is our favorite Taylor 12-String yet.

AGN News: July 2nd: The Dixie Chicks change their name to "The Chicks"
In the midst of America's struggles with racial injustice and inequality, comes the news that Texas trio, the Dixie Chicks have changed their name to simply, The Chicks. The name change comes in conjunction with the release of a new song, "March March," ,with its lyrics and video referencing public protests involving racial justice, police brutality, gun violence, climate change and LGBTQ rights. In the video, the names of dozens of Black victims of police brutality and those who died in apparently racially motivated confrontations, including George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Eric Garner and Amadou Diallo. The Chicks made no public statement regarding the name change but it does come hot on the heels of another country group, Lady Antebellum, changing its name simply to Lady A. , and they did issue a statement via social media saying that the country's recent attempts to reckon with racial justice issues had made the band members' eyes open wide to inequality. Wildwood Guitars • Gibson Custom Shop Lee Roy Parnell 1959 Les Paul Standard • SN: LRP9031
Lee Roy's signature model is a sight to behold. It features a custom finish dubbed "Abilene Burst" (an homage to his hometown), and it highlights the beautiful grain on the figured maple top. Two underwound '57 classic pickups produce sweet vintage PAF sounds that will inspire you to play for hours and hours. Speaking of sweet sounds, Lee Roy asked Gibson Custom to do something a little different for his signature model: would they put a bit of extra wood in the pickup cavities to give it a bit of extra vintage-style woodiness? They said yes, and it paid incredible dividends. Because of the extra wood, the pickups capture more of the guitar's acoustic character, the guitar feels more responsive, and it has glorious woody midrange that will take you back in time to 1959. The Lee Roy Parnell 1959 Les Paul doesn't skimp on the ergonomic side of things, either. It has a contoured cutaway to allow for maximum access to the upper frets and beyond, which is a godsend for slide players. As fun as it is to take slide solos up past the 22nd fret, you won't want to because the neck is so comfortable. It's a custom '59 profile that Leroy worked with the Custom Shop to create, and it has a lovely chunky feel that makes you want to cancel all your appointments for the day and adventure across the fretboard. We're proud to showcase such an inspiring signature model from our friends at Gibson Custom. We invite you to take one for a spin and experience the sound of Abilene. Once you do, we're sure the Lee Roy Parnell 1959 Les Paul Standard will help you make joyous noise for a long time.
AGN News: Roland and Korg hit with big fines in UK for price-fixing
News From London that Roland and Korg have been fined a combined total of £5.5m, which equates to $6.9 million US dollars, by the Competition and Markets Authority in the UK in 2 separate cases of price fixing. The CMA hit Fender with a £4.5m fine back in January, bringing the total number of cases to 5 and and the total fines to £13.7m. Also caught in the crossfire was UK musical instrument retailer GAK who have also been fined more than £250,000. The judgement was levied after a price-fixing agreement between GAK and Yamaha was disclosed to the CMA by Yamaha in exchange for the latter’s immunity from fines for being the first to bring the conduct to the Authority’s attention. This disclosure subsequently led to the CMA sending warning letters to dozens of other instrument suppliers and retailers and publishing an open letter to the industry writ large, reminding them of their legal responsibilities regarding Retail price management. The Competition and Markets Authority are also using a dedicated online tool they developed that automatically monitors price levels amongst retailers and detects any suspicious pricing activity. Fender Limited Edition HM Super Strat Demo & Review | An 80's Heavy Metal Classic Comes Back!
An awesome blast from the past from Fender, the Limited Edition HM Strat has arrived. Announced at NAMM 2020, these guitars bring back the high-octane madness from the Late '80's-Early '90's with high-quality construction, high-gain pickups, and high-inducing colors. Seen here in Frozen Yellow and Ice Blue (also available in Bright White and Flash Pink) these guitars confidently equip a Floyd Rose Special trem, coil-splittable bridge humbucker, 17' radius, 24 frets, light-weight body, Gotoh tuners, contoured heel, and jumbo frets: a recipe for metal if we've ever heard one; however, while this guitar is built for screaming speed, it's great for classic clean Stratocaster tones as well.
