12 years Cadillac Zack been bringin' the Blues to Tarzana on Monday Nights. This September night was one to remember. Joe Bonamassa and Jimmy Vivino played the entire East-West album by the Paul Butterfield Blues Band and here Popa Chubby joins in to pay homage and tribute to the man and the journey West they have all taken.. On Stage: Joe Bonamassa - guitar Jimmy Vivino - vocals/guitar Popa Chubby - guitar Rob Stone - harp Mike Merritt - bass James Wormworth - drums Cam/Phone/Edit: Casey Reagan Additional footage provided by Mr. Chairman The Wiki on East-West: East-West is the second album by The Butterfield Blues Band, released in 1966 on Elektra Records, EKS 7315 in stereo, EKL 315 in mono. It was recorded at the famed Chess Studios on 2120 South Michigan Avenue in Chicago. It peaked at #65 on the Billboard pop albums chart, but is regarded as highly influential by rock and blues music historians. Like the band's record debut, this album features traditional blues covers and the guitar work of Mike Bloomfield and Elvin Bishop. Unlike the band's debut album, Bishop also contributed guitar solos; drummer Sam Lay had left the band due to illness to be replaced by the more jazz-oriented Billy Davenport.[2] The social complexion of the band changed as well; ruled by Butterfield in the beginning, it evolved into more of a democracy both in terms of financial reward and input into repertoire.[3] One result was the inclusion of two all-instrumental extended jams at the instigation of Bloomfield following the group's successful appearance at The Fillmore in San Francisco during March alongside Jefferson Airplane.[4] Both reflected his love of jazz, as "Work Song" had become a hard bop standard, and the title track "East-West" used elements of modal jazz as introduced by Miles Davis on his ground-breaking Kind of Blue album. Bloomfield had become enamored of work by John Coltrane in that area, especially his incorporation of ideas from Indian raga music.[5] The album also included Michael Nesmith's song "Mary, Mary," which Nesmith would soon record with his band The Monkees - although original pressings of East-West did not include a songwriter's credit for this track. On October 29, 2001, a reissue of this album remastered by Bob Irwin at Sundazed Studios and coupled with the debut appeared on Rhino WEA UK for the European market.

Episode 3: Jack Williams
Jack Williams is a national class guitarist/singer/songwriter based in Columbia, SC. He is outstanding among the handful of artists who - in skill, depth and integrity - are simply beyond the pale of the average club artist on the circuit. Among acoustic guitarists he is near-legendary. Having avoided the compromises of the commercial music industry during his 39-year professional career, he has preferred working the road, playing coffeehouses, concerts and festivals week in, week out, from the sheer love - and respect - of music. Jack has been writing since 1970 and has a new CD of original music, Across the Winterline, on his own label, in addition to Dreams of the Song Dog on Nashville's Winter Harvest Records, and Highway From Back Home, his 1993 independent CD. In 1980, one of his songs was recorded by Tom Jones as a single and an album cut. Jack's friendship with two great singers had an enormous impact on the rest of Jack's career. In 1973, his relationship with the late Harry Nilsson resulted in an album effort at RCA during a year of music-industry turmoil. Since 1993, he has occasionally toured as sole accompanist to his friend, legendary songwriter Mickey Newbury, with whom he recorded a live album, Nights When I Am Sane, on Winter Harvest. In 1996, Jack co-produced, played and co-wrote a song on Mickey's newest CD, Lulled By The Moonlight, which made Billboard's CD pick-of-the-week. Jack is currently involved in helping Mickey complete his life's work in performing and recording due to his friend's poor health. In the past few years, Jack has emerged from self-imposed obscurity to find new audiences in the contemporary acoustic - or "folk" - music world. This has brought him much attention and led him to acclaimed appearances at several music festivals and venues as well as at the Folk Alliance Conference in 1997 in Toronto, where his guitar-playing, songs, and commanding personal presence caused a buzz in the folk community. As a singer/songwriter, Jack has opened for Dave Mason, Dar Williams, Tom Paxton, David Wilcox, John Gorka, Steve Forbert, Jonathan Edwards, Nicolette Larson, and Leon Russell. As a guitarist, he has been invited to accompany Tom Paxton, Lucy Kaplansky, Ellis Paul, Tom Prasada-Rao, Dayna Kurtz and Caroline Aiken. From 1958 through 1987, Jack was probably best-known as an electric guitarist in several influential rock bands. In the late 60's, he began exploring his troubadour nature and started to perform solo, singing and playing a gut-string guitar, traveling coast to coast. Before becoming a writer, Jack drew music and inspiration from the likes of Jesse Winchester, Bob Dylan, Hank Williams, Willis Alan Ramsey and Ray Charles. When the spirit moves him today, hundreds of songs from favorite writers spring readily from his lips and fingers. As a hired-gun guitarist in the 60's, Jack worked shows with John Lee Hooker, Big Joe Turner, Jerry Butler, and Hank Ballard, and later opened performances by the Allman Brothers, Delbert McClinton, and Arthur Conley. His bands also backed up such artists as the Shirelles, the Del-Vikings, the Brooklyn Bridge, the Coasters, the Drifters, and the Platters. Jack's career has been nothing if not eclectic. He played trumpet in a jazz quartet in a beatnik coffeehouse in Seattle in 1959 - reading poetry to the audience during breaks. He learned banjo and mandolin to spice up folk groups in the 60's. He played pedal-steel guitar in a country-rock band, and composed chamber music for strings, winds, piano and voice for which he won a national arts grant in 1967. He also played classical guitar/lute in a Renaissance ensemble. Jack Williams is truly a melting pot of all these influences, and combining them with his guitar, voice and songs, he creates all-American southern music that should not be missed.

The idea to launch a business began to germinate when Weil was using an off-the-shelf volume pedal that he wished had some sort of a visual indicator. Finding that no such pedal existed, he began learning about electronics, eventually starting Visual Sound and releasing the Visual Volume pedal in 1995. In Bob and Truetone’s joint 25-year story, we get everything from their first NAMM show, bankruptcy and rebirth, to the release of the flagship products Jekyll & Hyde, Route 66, H2O, and the 1 SPOT, as well as the eventual name change from Visual Sound to Truetone, the launch of the 1 SPOT Pro series, and why Bob decided to introduce the Truetone Lounge video series. We hope that after telling other's stories for years through the Truetone Lounge, you will enjoy getting to hear ours.

At the 2020 Winter NAMM Show, Taylor Guitars unveiled new guitars that expanded their existing collection of Builder's Edition guitars. In that group of new guitars was the most affordable Builder's Edition guitar to date, the new Builder's Edition 324ce. Building on the successful recipe that was first introduced with the Builder's Edition K14ce, the 324ce includes all of the ergonomic features: armrest bevel, cutaway bevel, chamfered edges, silent satin finish and more. The softened wing bridge first seen on the Grand Pacific Builder's Edition guitars is here as well. New to this guitar is a tone wood that is being utilized on a guitar for the first time, Urban Ash! This is Taylor's name for the tone wood that has been sourced from Shamel Ash that was planed in Urban environments and had to be taken down. Always looking for a way to be conservation minded with tone woods, Taylor set out to find a wood form these trees that may be suitable to guitar building. Andy Powers was impressed with this wood and so are we. The tone from the "Urban Ash" has the response of high grade mahogany, with a dry woodiness that when paired with the Mahogany top produces a wonderful ring with a dark earthy tone. Gotoh 510 tuners and Compass inlays round out the guitar that comes with a Deluxe Western Floral Hardshell case.

For our second installment of the Tone Profile series, we're taking a look at the Fender Telecaster. Cooper Greenberg is playing the Limited Edition Daybreak Telecaster, made in Japan, demonstrating the quintessential tones of each selection on the three-way toggle switch. The Telecaster is a simple, yet versatile instrument has been used all over blues, rock, country, jazz, and indie records since it’s introduction in the 1950’s. Players like Andy Summers, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, James Burton, and Jonny Greenwood have all made their mark playing this classic Fender, but it’s always welcoming to new players. In this video, Cooper is playing the Telecaster through a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe tube amp with a Mogami cable.
