Part 1: amazing vintage find in Hawaii online auction

AGN's Mark Rivett recently bought a beautiful, early - mid 60s Gretsch G6131, more commonly known as the JET FIREBIRD. In episode one we take a close look at the guitar which has suffered from being in a hot humid environment for many years....in fact, the guitar has been sitting in the (original) case since 1992...!! These guitars are prized and loved by many players and collectors, none more so than the late, great Malcolm Young from ACDC who single-handedly put this particular Gretsch workhorse on the map as a heavy rockin' rhythm machine.

At Home with David Becker: Chord Symbols and Voice Leading AGN

The great David Becker is keeping busy and sharing more Jazz guitar secrets from the Becker Bunker home studio. From David, "Interpreting Chord Symbols is often difficult. The symbols are Not just limited to the individual notes of that make up that particular chord, but rather the meaning or function of that symbol within the music. Much like seeing an international sign without words that everyone understands regardless of the language they speak. When seeing a Cmaj7 or G13 symbol on a chart, the question is often, what voicing do you play? In this video I will break down a way to see a common cadence (II - VI - II - V - I) in C major and how to interpret the chord symbols with grips or shapes that are interchangeable and how they work as a family of movement. I will also show how to best develop voice leading. This is more effective than thinking of individual chords. These shapes and grips are also useful for many other types of progressions."

David Becker Jazz Guitar Techniques - Trailer

Grammy-nominated Jazz guitarist and master educator, David Becker is back with a great 8 chapter masterclass on everything you need to know about Jazz Blues. Here's David's breakdown of each chapter. Episode 2: With the aide of a simple Blues melody written by Vibraphonist Milt Jackson, I will break down a 3 cord Blues using extensions such as (9th, 13th) and also how to voice dominant chords that have the melody note on top. Episode 3: In this chapter I will show how to expand the 3 Chord progression and introduce a II V I turnaround. Episode 4: In this chapter, I will show how to alter some of the dominant 7th chords using flat 9th or sharp 9th as well as a raised 5th. This will also introduce the minor 7th chord to the progression. Episode 5: In this chapter, I will discuss using the shapes directly out of the chord to solo. This includes major, minor and diminished triads. Episodes 6 & 7: In these chapters, there is more on soloing using the shapes, triads. Episode 8: Here are some more advanced methods to consider for soloing over a Blues. This includes chromatic and intervalic ideas.
