Wildwoodians, I would shiver the whole night through for a chance to play this glorious Roasted Pine Double Esquire from the Fender Custom Shop's 2019 Collection. It's quite exciting to welcome such a guitar to the Wildwood shelves, because it harkens back to an interesting part of Fender's history. Back in the early fifties, Leo Fender built all of his prototype guitars out of pine before switching to ash for his first production run. Ever since, pine-bodied guitars have been something of a rarity. It is a shame, because pine is a truly glorious tonewood (especially in the case of Esquires and Teles). It has a complex, spacious midrange to go with smooth highs and tight, well-mannered low-end. Also, the roasting process imparts some vintage warmth, focus and woodiness to this Double Esquire.
